Graphic Designer

MonkDev (Monk Development, Inc.) – an industry leading, innovative web development and software as a service company based in San Diego, CA – seeks a graphic/web designer to be the visual lead behind our design projects and brand.  MonkDev is one of the largest web developers and fastest growing private companies in San Diego.  We provide web solutions across all industries but we are thought leaders in the non-profit space, where thousands of churches, ministries and other non-profits use our services and technology.  The designer will be responsible for creating our corporate website, re-designing our web applications (eg. our Content Management System), mobile apps, product websites and many other projects.

Our ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Has a passion for good, clean design across multiple mediums
  • Loves exceptional User Interface design to ensure our products are highly usable
  • Has a strong concept of design process, including wireframes and UX
  • Can work closely with developers, product management and other team members
  • Loves figuring out what makes a brand connect with people
  • Can create art assets, icons, and visual elements. 
  • Has a definite sense of design and can discern good from bad
  • Works well independently and in cross-functional groups
  • Can jump into a lead design role, regardless of previous experience
  • Is self motivated, driven to continually improve their skills
  • Can keep MonkDev at the cutting edge of web, print, and mobile design trends

A strong website design portfolio is a must!   We are looking for a candidate with strong artistic, user-interface and Web 2.0 design sensibilities and a proven knack to adapt styles to changing design needs.  We're looking for a team player who will feel at home in a fast-paced environment and be willing to adapt to changing priorities while juggling several projects simultaneously.  Having an interest in non-profits is not critical but may very well help.  

Other qualifications include:

  • Minimum 5 years of interactive web and visual design experience.  
  • Self-starter who is a customer-obsessed, results-oriented, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic team player that gets excited about the controlled chaos of a high growth startup. 
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills including the ability to communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences.
  • Ability to work with highly technical teams and handle multiple projects in an agile, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in rapid iteration.
  • Expertise in Adobe suite of products.
  • A strong online portfolio demonstrating past work experience and relevant, user-centered design solutions is required, across multiple platforms  

The Designer will work closely with the executive team (CEO, CTO, COO), project team, product manager and communications team.   The position is based in San Diego.
